Among the numerous sites you’ll find in Ciutat Vella are the Ajuntament (City Hall), Palau de la Generalitat (hidden)na, Cortes (hidden)nas, Diputación (Palacio Batlia), and the Bolsa de (hidden) (Palacio de los Boil de Arenós). The Mercat Central (the jewel of the city’s traditional markets with its Modernist architecture), a variety of famous art and cultural centers, and a number of churches including the Catedral de (hidden) (la Seu), San Juan del Hospital, Santa Catalina, San Juan del Mercado, and the Basílica de los Desamparados are also located in this neighborhood. Last but not least, this is the best district to sample the orxata (horchata), a typical drink from (hidden) that is made from the chufi nut, sugar, and a hint of cinnamon, ideally from the city’s 2 best horchaterías found in Plaza de Santa Catalina: El Siglo and Horchatería Santa Catalina.
Extramurs: Extramurs is a largely residential district with about 6% of the city’s population residing in this area. The majority of the buildings were constructed between 1900 and 1960 and the La Finca Roja, built between 1929 and 1934 by Enrique Videma as middl(hidden)ss housing for factory workers, is found in this district. In addition to the residential character of the neighborhood and its proximity to the Ciutat Vella (and El Carmen), the neighborhood itself also has places of interest: the Torres de Quart, the Jardi Botànic de la Universitat de València, and the Estació del Nord train station. Extramurs also benefits from having the Estació de Joaquín Sorolla AVE station, which connects (hidden) to other cities in Spain such as Madrid.
